Here comes the iron works
National Development’s vision for a new mixed-use neighborhood in South Boston was bold and exciting. As an antithesis to the all glass facades of the Seaport, the Iron Works was instead steeped in history while feeling new and hip at the same time. A brand was crafted using historical photography of iron workers from the area’s industrial past mixed with nostalgic typography that feels right at home on the brick buildings that once supplied cannons during the Civil War. To launch this new project, our historic characters were placed all along the main strip with no explanation. This move earned the project a 2022 Hatch Award under the “Street Stopper” category.
